Long-lasting moisture

Breaking the cycle of flare-ups caused by very dry skin, however, requires more than instant relief. Intensive Rescue™ Relief & Repair Balm is formulated with highest levels of Vaseline® Petroleum Jelly in a cream format. This high concentration of occlusives helps protect your skin from further water loss, holding in your natural moisture. A high concentration of Vaseline® petroleum jelly is also necessary for the repair of extremely dry skin, which suffers from a structural breakdown within the topmost layer of your skin. Occlusives essentially fill in the breaks in your stratum corneum, which is the top layer of skin, promoting the environment for extremely dry skin to repair itself.

To measure the effectiveness of Intensive Rescue™ Relief & Repair Balm, our scientists utilised a SKICON Skin Hygrometer - a skin moisture meter that measures the degree of hydration in your skin. After four days of continued use, you can see our balm's effect on skin, essentially raising skin's baseline moisture level.

In the following graph, we measured skin's visual dryness grade after five days of application, using a 5 point clinical grading scale. A grade of 4 indicates severely dry skin. Any measurement between 0 and 1 indicates normal skin. Note that after using Intensive Rescue™ Relief & Repair Balm for five days, skin's mean visual dryness falls below 0.5 - the minimum level of dryness perceptibility. This means that the signs of very dry skin have improved and that skin looks more moisturised and healthy over time.

The balm formulation was also tested under harsher conditions over a longer period of time. With less than two weeks of consistent use, our test shows that very dry skin and tough skin flare-ups can once again become healthy through moisturisation. The following graph measures untreated very dry skin versus very dry skin treated with Intensive Rescue™ Relief & Repair Balm. Daily use of the balm brought skin with a grade of 3 (which means "very dry") to 0.5 (which means "normal").

As you can see in the graph below, over the course of a day, only skin treated with Intensive Rescue™ Moisture Locking Body Lotion maintained the higher levels of moisture. Using Skicon and Corneometer measurements we found that over a 24 hour period Intensive Rescue™ Moisture Locking Body Lotion outperformed the leading competitor in the UK. We then examined the visual appearance of dryness in skin 24 hours after the application of lotion. The Visual appearance of dry skin was dramatically improved on skin treated with Intensive Rescue™ Moisture Locking Body Lotion.  Skin treated with Intensive Rescue™ Moisture Locking Body Lotion improved in visual skin condition – essentially, skin looked less dry and therefore more healthy.
